For Colin, Solomon and Anderson Phillips of 50 Valley Road, happiness is a pet pukeko. The bird was raised from the chick stage and goes everywhere with the boys. It even comes to town in the car.

For Jennifer Robinson, 6, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Robinson, Matawai, happiness is a pet magpie called "Cheeper". He was raised from the chick stage too. He whistles and talks, and even sleeps and eats with the two household cats, Misty and Ginger.

Out at Te Karaka on "Ahirau" station, Mr and Mrs Charlie Brown have a jersey cow with a calf at foot which feeds normally. This is O.K., but whoever heard of a pig getting in on the act too? He does this every time the calf feeds. Jenny (the calf) and Spot (the pig) pictured at supper-time.

From Mrs T. J. McCreedy, 594 Gladstone Road, comes this picture of boxes on a fence line near Manurewa. Mrs McCreedy took the picture while on holiday, and enquiries showed that they were nesting boxes for starlings. This is to attract the birds in an effort to control grass grubs in the area.
