Mr and Mrs Charlie Ferguson, Kahutia Street, celebrated their diamond wedding recently. Mr Ferguson is well known in racing circles and has raced horses almost everywhere in the country. Associated with the catering trade for most of their lives Mr and Mrs Ferguson still maintain a lively interest in all that is going on. The celebrants are shown with Mr Ferguson's sisters. Richard Smythe, 7 Parker Street, is off to Australia after spending last year at Auckland University. He intends to work this year to pay for his attendance at the University of Sydney next year.

Lyle Roy and Tony Matthews, members of the crew of the U.S.S. Platte, A024 fleet oiler, were in Gisborae recently while their ship docked at Auckland. It was the first time in New Zealand for both men, but Tony came to visit his uncle, Mr Noel Plummer, 28 Townley Street, whose sister is Tony's mother. She was formerly Betty Plummer, of 16 Lyndhurst Street, but now Mrs Matthews of 1728 North 23rd, Pasco, Washington, U.S.A. From left: Lyle Roy, Tony Plummer and Noel Plummer.

At a farewell function at Ulveratone Mr E. T. (Jack) Chrisp was guest of honour. The occasion marked his retirement as manager of D. J. Barry's after 47 years' association with the company. From left: Mr Chrisp, and Messrs E. ("Snow") Hansen, now manager of D.J. Barry Ltd., Pat Edwards, President of the Gisborne and East Coast Hoteliers' Association, Abel Cooper, president of the social clubs of D. J. Barry's, Leopard Breweries' and Associated Bottlers (who organised the function), and Bernie O'Connell, managing director of New Zealand Breweries.
