Feed By the Ton

This feed container, constructed by the Porter Engineering Co., for Waihuka Stud farm, is part of a new type of feeding system to be introduced into this area. The container is 24 feet long, 10½ feet wide, weighs four tons and will hold 54 tons of grain. A four-inch feed auger below the container brings out the grain as required which in turn is fed into a transporter for feeding out to stock on the farm. It is capable of being enlarged to increase grain capacity. It is shown here leaving Porter's from where it is being towed by a powerful Chamberlain Champion 306 tractor. The container is supported towards the rear by two wheels, although the whole container is built over two skids for easy manoeuvreability on the farm.
