Mr Fred McAneney retired recently as manager of the Gisborne Abattoir Company. He joined the company in 1938 and in 1948 became managing director. More recently he has been manager of the company. Mr McAneney started his working life with the Waipaoa Freezing Works in 1927.

Mr Len Jackson also retired from the Abattoir Company on the same day. He has been assistant to Mr McAneney in the clerical division for the past three years. Mr Jackson, who previously owned his own butchery business in Gladstone Road for many years, is also a past director of the Abattoir Company. He commenced his association with the meat trade at the Taruheru Freezing Works in 1925

Helen Nutley, 12, of 9 James Street, is pictured with a model of the Endeavour which was built by her father, Mr R. J. Nutley. Many hours of work have gone into this model of Captain Cook's ship which has remarkable detail. Helen is also holding a map which traces Captain Cook's voyage around New Zealand.

During the recent Bethel Chapel crusade a coffee morning was held at the chapel hall. The ladies were given a flower arranging demonstration by Mrs P. Boals. They were then addressed by Mr Ces Hilton of Wellington. Below left: Mrs Boals receives an appreciation for her demonstration from the president of the Ladies' Mission Meetings, Mrs S.
