The Arawa Attack

The invading four from Rotorua, the Arawa team, slaughtered all the opposition they met and emerged the victors in this year's Burton Cup bowling tournament. The Poverty Bay greens were in magnificent order and all bowlers showed great form.

The winners: Bill Sanders (skip), Ben Alty (3), Geoff Hepburn (2), and Fred Hutchings (lead).

The Kahutia four, Jim Duncan (lead), Bob Lloyd (2), John Godwin (3), and Wally Liddell (skip) were runners-up and they won the Robertson Shield.

Taking equal third place were two local teams. They were,

Playing in the tournament was the president of the New Zealand Bowling Association, Jim Molloy.

The others were Frank Roberts (skip), Ernie De Suza (3), Reece Hopkinson (2) and Duff Jones (lead) of Gisborne.

The Gisborne Club four, Tom Vaughan (skip), Frank Hale (3), Alex Allen (2) and Peter Kaua (lead), won the championship fours title.

Runners-up were Geoff Weatherley (skip), George Weatherley (3), Norm Baynes (2) and Hec Weatherley (lead) of Kahutia.
