Golden Weddings

Mr and Mrs Harry Findlay, 52 Moana Road, Wainui, celebrated 50 years of married life recently with an "At Home" in the afternoon and a family dinner party in the evening. The Findlays have spent all their lives on the East Coast, formerly in Tolaga Bay, and then in Gisborne. Mr Findlay, who was manager of the Masonic Hotel for ten years, is well known in the racing world and is a steward of the P.B. Turf Club. In this family picture are, from left, daughters Miss Gwen Findlay, Mrs Gloria Harrison, grandson Robert Harrison, Mr and Mrs Findlay, and daughter-in-law and son Pauline and Ted Findlay.

Brothers and sister together for the occasion are, from left, Matt (Thames), Cecil (Napier), Harry (Wainui), and Mrs Gladys Dodge (Gisborne).

Old friends for many, many years: Mrs Dora Findlay, Mrs Elsie Mason, Mrs Janie Robinson, and Mrs Julie Robertson.

Another couple celebrating their golden wedding are Mr and Mrs A. McLennan, 94 Chalmers Road. They have spent their 50 years of married life in this fair city and have seen many changes made.

Mr and Mrs Lawrence Hughes, 757 Gladstone Road, originally came from Ireland, the foothills of the Mountains of Mourne, no less, in County Down. The Hughes spent the first 25 years of their lives in New Zealand in Wairoa and the second 25 years in Gisborne, after coming out from the ould sod 50 years ago.
