Up and Coming
Up and coming young rugby players were on the job at Te Karaka when they took the field before the Barry Cup game. The Poverty Bay eleventh graders scored a good 12 to nil win over their Te Karaka opposition.
The winning Gisborne team was, from left, at back, manager Stuart McKnight, Barney Tupare, Tawhiao Kingi, Harvey Brown, Peter Wills, Joe Brown, Ross McKeague, Lance Jones, Noel Reardon. In front, Rangi Taingahue, Nick Frankish, Kevin Grant, Butch Atkins, Tommy Swann, Hinga Kaiwai, Laurie Holmes and Ray Hovell.

Determination is expressed on the faces of these opposing members of the two teams.

The eighth grade game provided some exciting moments also and gave the crowd a taste of what was to come in the Barry Cup.
