Flower Power

The power of the flower was in evidence at the National Daffodil Show held under the auspices of the Poverty Bay Horticultural Society. Some beautiful blooms were on display and they certainly had drawing power as there were plenty of people there to see them.

Exhibitors of the champion bloom of the show were P. and G. Phillips of Otorohanga. With the bloom, a 2B large cup bi-celour, is Phil Phillips.

Messrs Dave Butcher (steward) and Ron Hyde of Whangarei (judge) looking for the best bloom in this class.

Ken Blackman, one of the judges from Auckland, had a difficult task selecting winners.

Ross Barriball took the best amateur bloom in show with Malta, a 2A red Cud.

Now of Tauranga, but formerly proprietor of Pomona Orchard for many years, Mr Roy Crawford is pictured with his prize-winning bloom. Eighty-seven-year-old Mr Crawford has been exhibiting for 65 years.

Messrs Hyde and Blackman had an unenviable task in sorting out the champion of champions. At back is Mr S. B. Monck.

A striking display of fruit was arranged by the Citrus Society.
