Rural Rarity

A rare birth took place recently when black triolet lambs were born on Mrs W. R. Stokes's property at Muriwai. The dam is a black ewe from a Romney cross, and the sire was a Southdown ram. To get black lambs both parents must carry genetic factors for black progeny, and this, combined with the fact that triplets are fairly unusual makes the occasion worthy of note. Two of the lambs stand by their mother while the third is held by Julie Barker of Wainui.
