Two recent visitors to Gisborne were Valerie Young and Mariko Tanimoto. Valerie Young will be remembered by many as she taught at the Convent for 12 years before going off to do missionary work in Taiwan. Here she met Mariko, from Japan, who was also working there. After two years in Taiwan, Valerie visited Mariko in Japan in 1967, then last May Mariko came to New Zealand. While in Gisborne they stayed with Brian and Joan McBreen, 8 Mary Street, who are pictured at left, with Mariko, Valerie and Mrs A. Callahan, Joan's mother.
