Unusual Play-off

A rare coincidence occurred in the final of the Poverty Bay Golf Club's Open Championship when the Gordon brothers met in the deciding match for the trophy.

Frank Gordon defeated younger brother Eric three and two on the 16th. Frank is now seven times winner of the event, while Eric has won the championship three times.

Under ideal conditions the pair fought out a close game before the scrutiny of a large gallery.
