"Merrie England"

Fine Rendition Of

The Gisborne Choral Society gave two excellent performances of Edward German's "Merrie England" on July 18 and 20. Staged in the Y.M.C.A. stadium, the two act presentation by the society gave audiences a memorable treat. The leading singers impressed in the solos, duets and quartets.

Five of the leading male singers were, from left, Messrs Tas Davie, Tom Oates, Peter Cooper and John Speakman (basses) and Peter Sims (tenor).

The four leading female singers were Ethel Jackson and Niomi Hudson (altos), and Mary Quinn and Leaonie Small (sopranos).

Both Derek Allan (bass) at left, and Revel Rice (tenor) impressed the audience with their range and control.
