56 Years Later

From Mrs B. Jenkins, 3 Tolerton Avenue, comes this picture of her father, Mr J. T. Lloyd (right) of Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, England, and Mr A. J. W. Amos of Nelson.

Mr Lloyd stayed with Mrs Jenkins recently, then visited his other daughter, Mrs G. D. Simes of Stoke. An article about Mr Lloyd in the Nelson Evening Mail was read by Mr Amos and after 56 years the two men met again. The story was that both men were the first to sight the distress flares from the Star of Canada as she was being wrecked off Kaiti Beach in 1912. They went their various ways shortly afterwards, Mr Lloyd returning to England. Here they are seen together with the carved display frame made by Mr Amos to commemorate the wreck. It has various pictures of the ship inset on the frame.
