First Promotion Award

The first annual award for Gisborne tourist promotion, made by the Travel and Holiday Association, was presented to Miss Winnifred Lysnar at a function at Ulverstone on July 8. The award is in the form of a trophy, which consists of a globe of the world and replica of the Cook Memorial mounted on a handsome base, and a framed certificate. The association gives the award to a person who makes an outstanding private contribution to tourist promotion in the district. Miss Lysnar has unobtrusively run her riding school on her property at Okitu for the past eleven years. Consequently, in that time, many hundreds of boys and girls and their parents have come to the district as tourists.

Miss Lysnar said she preferred to accept the award on behalf of a team, which was Mrs J. Tomb, Mrs H. Russell and Mr L. Woodward, as well as herself. They had all made the success of the school possible. From left are the Mayoress, Mrs H. H. Barker, who made the presentation, the Mayor, Mr Barker, Miss Lysnar, and the chairman of the Gisborne Branch of the Travel and Holiday Association, Mr N. S. Summersby.
