A sea leopard was an unusual visitor to Waikanae beach recently. The mammal must have been stranded overnight for it was discovered on the beach above the high water mark early one morning. Members of the S.P.C.A. moved it back into the water. Salisbury Road resident, Mr F. R. Scott, below whose place the sea leopard was discovered, makes an inspection of the animal.

An animal of some talent is Speed, a sheep dog belonging to Bill Teutenberg of Muriwai. Speed cleaned up the opposition in no uncertain terms in the Poverty Bay Charity Dog Trials held earlier this year. He won the first prize of $60, the toaster trophy donated by the Jolly Stockman hotel, and also the first prize of a picnic set in the run-off for the first five top dogs. The picnic set was donated by the Roseland hotel.
