Junior Red Cross

Five schools in Gisborne have J.R.C. classes in their optional periods. They are Mangapapa, St. Mary's, Te Hapara, Kaiti and I.H.C. The first country class is hoped to be started at Waimata Valley School. These pictures taken at the Mangapapa School show the public what the J.R.C. does.

Geoff Evans gets a helping hand from Miss Hillary Buckley with his peggy square. Barry Harris, Kevin Wells and Jim McLeish make albums to send to R.C. centres overseas. Jan Falkiner is assisted by Mrs Waikari to tie a sling on Beryl Waikari during a first aid lesson.

Boys and girls excel in French knitting which is made into mats.

Girls knit peggy squares to be made into quilts for overseas.

Making friendship bags which will contain a new pencil, rubber, ruler and other small items for overseas centres are Miss Penny Mitchell, Karen Williams, Julie Norman, Anthea Webster and Valerie Jones.

Making toys for overseas and Cook Hospital are, back row, Joy Morrow, Miss Lorraine Hacche and Lesley Redgrave. Front row, Helen Comber, Wendy Falkiner, Joanne Pearce and Denise Stapleton. The J.R.C. also visit the aged and needy in hospital and in their homes. Mrs I. Holland (ph. 3187) is the organiser for P.B. district.
