A small gathering of Scouts and members of the public met on Kaiti Hill at 6.45 am on April 23 to commemorate St. George's Day.

Boys of the St. David's Scout group set to with a will and gathered a truck load of paper during their recent paper drive.

Chris Evans (Mangapapa), Graham Williams (Kaiti) and Peter McLatchie (Takitimu) raised the flags for the short ceremony.

The Gisborne Cycling Club will this season be known as Watties Amateur Cycling Club. The club, to be sponsored this year by J. Wattle Canneries, was presented with its new jerseys and caps by Malcolm Cameron who represented Watties. Receiving the jerseys at the opening of the season is club captain Peter Hayley (right). Centre is Mayor Harry Barker.
