Taken from an unusual angle this shot of the railway bridge over the Turanganui River emphasises the curvature of the structure. At the same time the whole picture has a futuristic appearance about it, bringing to mind such a TV programme as "The Invaders", perhaps?

A delightfully cool spot such as this in the Botanical Gardens forms a pleasant oasis from the heat suffered in recent weeks.

Harry Conway, 30 Salisbury Road, a horticulturist with the Maori Affairs Department, has this super dwarf mandarin growing in his garden. The 17-year-old tree, which is 2½ feet high, bears fruit annually and last season bore 20 mandarins.

This superb yellow dahlia seedling, a large semi-cactus, took the award for Premier Bloom at the recent flower show. It was grown by Mr R. Jobson, Otoko.
