Barbed Wire Machine

What's New In Industry

The first barbed wire machine to be installed in the Gisborne district commenced production at the Hurricane Wire Products factory in Awapuni Road recently.

Imported from Japan, the machine produces one ton of barbed wire in an eight-hour day, and is controlled by a single operator, Mr Bill Green.

Fed by four reels of 12½ and 14 gauge galvanised wire, it twists and inserts the barbs and winds the finished product on to 56lb reels.

Local production is expected to reduce the cost to the local farmer. The wire will be exported to the Bay of Plenty, Wairoa, and, in the future, Hawkes Bay.
