Around The School

Much is heard of the feats of great rugby teams, but compare the record of the Riverdale School's 11th grade team which this year won its section of the Junior Advisory Board's Saturday morning competition, and in so doing became Gisborne primary school champions. The team has been undefeated in its 12 games, and has scored 284 points for three against. It is coached by Mr Terry Samuel, and is supervised on Saturday mornings by Mr P. Andrew. Captain of the Boys' High first XV, Gordon Barbara, who was a member of the North Island secondary school rugby team which played South Island as a curtain raiser to the N.Z.-Australia jubilee match at Athletic Park, Wellington.

John Hickling, son of Mr and Mrs H. W. Hickling, Waerenga-o-kuri, who was deputy head prefect, athletics captain, and a member of the first XV of St. Patrick's Silverstream College, has left for a year's schooling at the new Adlai Stevenson Memorial College, at Deerfield, Chicago, as an American Field Exchange scholar.
