Photographed holding the head of the deer is the uncle of Mr H. Houkamau, Hicks Bay, who shot the animal.

The young stag which was shot only two hundred yards from the fence near the main road had evidently come down from the bush and lost its way.

Could it be that this pest is on the march?

They are Messrs Bert Lewis (engineer), Harry Codgrave (shipwright), I. J. Quigley (manager), Alec Thompson (ship's master) and Don McLeod (launch master).

All are retired members of the Lightering Company staff except Mr Thompson, who still captains the lighter Kaiwaka.

Pic from Harry Macdonald.

Holding up his catch for our inspection is the young fisherman, Chris Flood, who caught the barracuda.

From Captain S. A. Medland, Te Araroa, comes this picture of the head and antlers of the first deer believed to be shot in the East Cape area.

Pictured with the deer he shot on Fred Buckley's property at Manutuke is Roger Andrew, also of Manutuke.

Five men who have given life-time service to shipping in Gisborne were present when Mr Don McLeod, formerly of 678 Gladstone Road, and now of Hamilton, retired from the Gisborne Lightering and Stevedoring Company.

Hooked and caught in the harbour was this barracuda, not the most placid of fish when it reaches full size.
