Take a Gander At This!

Pick Of The Newspix

Birds of a feather may flock together, but not this gander on a Glen Eden farm. It is convinced it is a sheep.

The gander flew into the farm about seven years ago and immediately joined a flock of sheep.

The dogs chased it away, but it kept coming back. Today it is the undisputed leader of the flock. It lives on grass, conducts the sheep to new pastures, and stays with them when they are penned.

It "talks" to them continually, and although it has not yet learned to bleat, they seem to understand it.

At lambing time the gander is a proper old fusspot.

It gets terribly upset if separated from the flock and as soon as a ewe goes into labour the gander rushes over to "comfort" her.

The picture shows the gander "looking after" the flock on the farm.
