Changing Face

The Turanganui subdivision, an extension of Aberdeen Road encircling the Harry Barker Reserve, is now more than half filled with high-class homes, making it one of the most attractive residential areas in the city.

Structural work on the new three-storey Police Station, on the corner of Peel Street and Childers Road, is virtually completed, and window and interior fittings will soon be appearing.

Another block of new flats for Gisborne is taking shape in Gladstone Road opposite Openshaw's Supermarket. Owned by Low Bros., they will be named Le Grand Flats, and will have nine units and a manager's residence (pictured).

A major demolition job is changing the scene in lower Reads Quay, where Monk Bros are removing the former Sheepfarmers Wool Store, a two-storey brick building now owned by J. Wattie Canneries.
