Wedding Celebrated in England and Gisborne
Attending the happy couple in Leeds were Zella Whyte, Sussex, and formerly of Whakatane (matron of honour), and Michael Nield, Hamilton, Canada, and formerly of Leeds. The couple will make their home in Leeds. (Local picture by Kandid Kamera Kraft).
While Miss Anne Nola Berry, daughter of Mr and Mrs C. H. Berry, 127 Russell Street, was being married to David White, son of Mr and Mrs A. E. White, Leeds, England, in the St. Augustine Church, Harehills, Leeds, her parents on the other side of the world were celebrating the marriage in a novel way. Unable to attend the ceremony, they staged a facsimile wedding breakfast in their home, with the bride's nephew and niece, Peter and Leanne Walters, as junior "stand-ins". Dressed in a miniature dinner suit, made by Mr Berry, a well-known local tailor, Peter, aged two years, is pictured cutting the cake, watched by his 10 months-old "bride", wearing her mother's veil.
