Pictures From The Past

Continuing on from last month, when we pictured coaching days along the Coast, is this photo taken at the north end of the Okitu Beach, past Wainui.
If you were lucky the tide was out, and if not the tide was in and the horses and coaches had to make their way through the surf before leaving the beach to go over the first hill.

Three generations having a day on the beach - nearly fifty years ago.
The beach is Waikanae and the pavilion now stands on the site of the bathing shed in the background.
Those in the picture are Mrs Betty Cooper, Upper Orraond Road (right), her mother, Mrs Kathleen Brown (left) and her grandmother, Mrs J. MacKinlay.
