New Swimming Event

The Lions Club sponsored River Swim, held for the first time on January 3, replaces the annual Bay Swim. Over 2½ miles, the course is from the island in the Waimata River down to the cut.

Twenty-seven of the 30 entrants, including five girls, completed the distance.

Glen Sutton's winning time was 45m 16s.
