The Gisborne Thistle Soccer Club held its annual dinner at Ulverstone after which the prizegiving took place.

The new intercepter sewer link which will connect Mangapapa with the submarine outfall has been virtually completed. The bridge will be utilised for ready access to the High Schools from Mangapapa and Will be able to be used within the next few weeks.

The old rowing shed, which has served the Rowing Club for many long years is now being demolished. On the river at Bright Street the shed was ideally situated for participants of the sport.

Not auguring too well for the coming summer is this grass fire already, on the Kaiti Hill at the back of the Fitzgerald housing block.

Although quickly under control there is an old saying that prevention is better than cure.
