An enthusiastic cactus grower, Mr J. B. Greig has more than 1600 different species growing in hot houses and around his farm house at Waerenga-a-hika. He is displaying one of his beautiful cactus flowers which bloom for only a few hours during the morning.

Naturalist Mr Reg Williams, Hastings, leader of the New Zealand Junior Wild Life Wardens' organisation, who led an expedition of school boys to the tropical jungle of the Solomon Islands last year, visited Gisborne recently to consult with P.R.O. John Burland about staging an exhibition in the city early next month.

The hot-houses are filled to capacity with thousands of cactil, of every shape, size, and description.

Often considered a man of foresight in civic matters, Gisborne Mayor Mr Harry Barker appears to be looking to his own future in this picture showing a seven by three foot flower plot labelled with his personal reservation....the sign of course is in Gladstone Road indicating an entrance to the new Harry Barker Reserve.
