Free Library Service Inaugurated

An important step in the library service available to Gisborne readers was taken last week with the inauguration of a new system by which thousands of first-class books may be taken out without charge to the reader. This applies to the better novels, and to books on travel, biography and similar subjects. A small fee is charged for books of the western, mystery and romance type.

There are now fully stocked sections for children and teenagers from which selections may be made without a fee.

The full resources of the National Library service are now available at the Turanganui Public Library for the asking.

Photographs on these two pages were taken on the occasion of the opening of the new service.
