Going Abroad

Fulbright grants will take two old boys of Gisborne High School to teaching posts in the United States shortly.

Judy and Isobel Doleman, daughters of Mr and Mrs W.B. Doleman, Hexton, who have left on a two-year trip to England and the Continent. A case in Sussex awaits Judy, who is a Karitane nurse, while Isobel will continue her general nursing career, and study for maternity examinations in Scotland.

Miss Margaret Barnard, dietitian at the Cook Hospital, who has retired after 19 years with the Board. She has accepted a position as dietitian supervisor of the Fijian Colony. Miss Barnard was highly praised by the Hospital Board for her work there.

Mr D.F. Bacon, M.Sc., only son of Mr and Mrs F.G. Bacon, Oswald Street, Mang-apapa, who is to spend three years at Yale University, Connecticut, where he will take up a post as assistant lecturer. Mr Bacon is at present a lecturer in bacteriology at the Medical School at Otago University.

Mr R.T. Kelly, M.A., elder son of Mr and Mrs T.P. Kelly, 6 Daphne St., Kaiti, who leaves by clipper on August 30 for Eugene, in Oregon. After completing his term there he will go on to the United Kingdom, returning to New Zealand in January, 1957. Mr Kelly is at present on the staff of Thames High School.
