New Surf Club Building Opened
The Midway Surf Life-savins Club's new £18,000 clubhouse was officially opened by the Mayor, Mr H. H. Barker, during Labour weekend.
The building, in addition to providing the club with modern facilities, contains a lavish cabaret - onference hall, public toilets and changing sheds, a shop, and a sun deck.
Its completion was the culmination of 14 years' fund raising by members of the club.
The building has been described as the most impressive surf club structure Australasia.

The spacious and lavishly furnished cabaret hall is walled by glass on three sides.
At a cabaret in the hall to celebrate its opening, Mr Griffin was presented with a Life Membership blazer by the club's only other Life Member, Mr Ken Morse (left).

Prior to the opening, a sand-castle competition was held. The winners, Ross (left) and Gary Chalmers, are pictured with their "Sea Monster".
