Gisborne surf-riding exponent Bob Davie proved his superiority at the sport when he won the senior men's title at the recent New Zealand Championships in New Plymouth. Davie also won the senior paddleboard race, for the second consecutive year. In the junior competition, former champion Alan Byrne took second place, with another Gisborne rider, Kevin Lewis, third, Byrne also won the junior paddleboard race. The only local lady rider to reach the final was Gail Patty, who was placed third.

The 1966 New Zealand championships will be held in Gisborne at Easter.
