Rugby Union Reunion

Highlight of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union's 75th Jubilee celebrations was a reunion of former representative players in the Army Hall.

Guests at the reunion were members of the Hawkes Bay team which defeated Poverty Bay in the jubilee match at Rugby Park.

All Blacks of three different eras were present at the function. From left: Messrs George Nepia (1924-1930 All Black full-back), John Collins (1964-65 All Black five-eighths), and Richard White (1949-1956 All Black lock forward).

Turuki Pere, who was captain of the P.B. team which beat H.B. in 1917, renews memories with Messrs Tom Morrison (president N.Z.R.U.), who played in Gisborne as a school boy in 1923, and Stan Reeves, a P.B. rep in 1921.

A large group of 1933 reps were, from left: Messrs K. Hepburn, K. Dunlop, F. McAneney, R. Rogers, L. McKinley, G. Murland, and C. McKinley. All were members of the Celtic Club.

Talking of "the good old days" were, from left: Messrs E. A. (Jack) Collett (1920-1926), T. H. Walters (1930), K. A. Woodward (1923-1929), F. McAneney (1933-1937), I. Bramwell (1927-1929), and F. Bull (1923).

Some of the younger players were, from left: Neil Thimbleby (H.B.), Kelvin Tremain (H.B.), John Collins (P.B.), and Brian Johnson (P.B.). Tremain and Collins were team-mates in the All Black team which defeated the Springboks in the first test.

Smiling for the camera are Eddie Carrington (left), a P.B. rep of 1946-1951 and E.C. rep of 1952-1954, and a former Maori All Black, and Tini Glover, a P.B. rep of 1954-1955.

The function was also a reunion for two old school mates, Keith Bond, of Gisborne, and Kelvin Tremain, of Hawkes Bay. Both attended Northcote School, Auckland, 15 years ago.
