The driver and passenger of a Griffin's truck and trailer were lucky to escape serious injury when their vehicle plunged down a steep slope off the Wharerata highway after its brakes failed. The wreckage of the trailer and its contents are pictured strewn across the hillside.

The Tainui Cub Pack, which was the only Gisborne entry in the "Bata Super Strong" scrapbook competition, received a pennant and certificate for its effort.
