Flying Sheep

Fifty-five in-lamb Romney ewes and one ram flew into Gisborne in a D.C.3 freighter on a direct flight from Dunedin last month. Weighing a total of 6OOOlb, the sheep were the biggest live-stock consignment air-freighted into Gisborne.

The sheep are the property of Mr L. S. M. White, a breeder who recently moved from Gore to his new property at Waingakia Station near Ruatoria.

On arrival, the sheep were off-loaded into a truck, to be transported up the coast.

At Darton Field, the sheep looked quite happy after their eight-hour flight penned in the fuselage of the D.C.3.

Leaving the plane the sheep received a helping hand from Messrs S. Matthews and F. Waugh, and their owner, Mr White.
