Pictures From The Past
The first bath house at Morere, before the area was developed by the Government, was not a very attractive building, as can be seen in this picture taken in 1906.
Other than the large clock, which now stands in the Gladstone Road clock tower, the Gisborne post Office looked much the same in appearance as it did half a century ago.
Some of the many hazards experienced by early travellers on the East Coast roads were wash-outs and rock falls. In this picture, taken on the road to Tolaga Bay in 1909, travellers have stopped their horse-drawn coach to clear the track of a large boulder.
