Winner of the first prize in the "Name the Dog" competition, which ran during the school holidays in Morrison's paint shop, Elizabeth Lawrie, pictured with her new pet. Elizabeth, who is the 11-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Lawrie, called the dog Winkie. The competition drew more than 600 entries.

Mr W. Johnson (left), Herbert Road, who has retired from Dalgety and N.Z. Loan after almost 44 years' service, being congratulated by the firm's manager, Mr F. Waugh, with his successor, Mr J. Richards, looking on. Mr Johnson joined N.Z. Loan and Mercantile in Auckland in 1921, and moved to Gisborne 15 years ago. At the time of his retirement, he held the position of head accountant.

More than 150 Gisborne pioneers were entertained by the Victoria League in the Abercorn Hall on a recent afternoon as part of the League's Commonwealth Day commemoration. The guests are pictured watching the concert.
