Modern Meat Mover

A modern and hygienic meat delivery truck, in which the carcases are hung from the ceiling instead of being dumped on the floor, commenced operations in Gisborne recently.

Owned by Mr Jack MacQuirter, formerly of Hamilton, the truck has a stainless steel floor and aluminium wall panelling, with four overhead rails from which the bodies are slung.

The meat is loaded and unloaded by winch, and at no time during its transportation is in contact with unclean surfaces.

With a capacity of eight tons, the truck is at present delivering from the abattoirs to seven city butchers.

Although it is the first in Gisborne, this type of vehicle has been in common use elsewhere in New Zealand for some time.
