Annual Rugby Clash

The annual clash between Poverty Bay and East Coast at Rugby Park on Queen's Birthday weekend drew a crowd of more than 6000, who were treated to a keen display of rugby, and especially goal kicking.

Poverty Bay's full-back Haupai Henare was right on the ball, scoring points from seven of his eight attempts at goal, giving himself a personal tally of 20, and his side victory by 23 to 14.

East Coast's points also came mainly from the boot, both sides scoring only one try each.

The game held keen interest for both players land spectators, as selectors Messrs A. J. Sheehan and E. Baker picked their combined team to play against the Springboks.
