Orphans' Club Tenth Anniversary

The Gisborne Orphans'.Club celebrated its tenth anniversary at a korero held in the Abercorn Hall on a recent Saturday night.

At the function, three life membership awards, and 51 ten-years' service badges, were presented.

A portion of the programme was taken up with the finals of the Bill Sutherland Sketch Cup competition, in which several humorous items were presented.

The winning sketch, entitled "Hanging an Innocent Man", featured, from left; Frank Pollard, Bruce Wotherspoon, and Wally Jonasen.

Second place went to a humorous play on words, with Keith Stichbury, Eric Brown, and George Rawlings as the expectant by-standers at left.....................

Chief Orphan Bill Sutherland presents Max Fry, who has been secretary of the club since its inauguration in 1955, with his life membership badge.

The three life members are, from left: Messrs Dick Moloney (inaugural chief orphan), Les Strachan (founder of club), and Max Fry.
