New Egg Grading Machine

Farm Products Co-op (Gisborne) Ltd. recently installed a new egg grading machine to handle their annual turnover of 1¼ million dozen eggs.

Fitted with a vacuum loading device and electronic counters, the machine replaces an old hand-loaded model, and has a capacity of 660 dozen per hour.

The eggs are loaded in bulk on to an automatic feed belt, which places them on a line for individual examination. They are then graded into six different sizes.

From the grading table they are cartoned by hand and dispatched.

Quantities of the eggs are exported to other centres, depending on the demand.
