Raymond James Watchman, son of Mr and Mrs Reg Watchman, formerly of Bulwer Road, has been contracted to sing in the New Zealand Opera Company's forthcoming productions of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" and "11 Trovatore". This will be his second season with the Company, having appeared as soloist in "La Boheme" and "The Magic Flute" last year. Mr Watchman took his first vocal lessons in Gisborne, and appeared in the Gisborne Operatic Society's 1959 production of "Oklahoma". He intends pursuing his career as an opera singer overseas in the future.
