Miss Yvonne Anderson, daughter of Mr and Mrs P. J. Anderson, 52 Oak Street, has left Gisborne to do psychiatric nursing at Oakley Hospital, Auckland.

Miss Cynthia Blake (left), daughter of Mr and Mrs C. Blake, Clifford street, and Miss Marcia James, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. W. James, 13 Lewis Street, who have sailed on the Southern Cross on an extended working holiday of Great Britain, America, and the Continent. Miss James celebrated her 21st birthday shortly before leaving.

Nurse Mavis Carswell, daughter of Mr and Mrs N. Carswell, Childers Road, has completed four years' training at the Waikato Hospital, and is now a Staff Sister at Timaru. Early next year, Miss Carswell intends travelling to England.

Twenty-one year-old Thomas Kini, son of Mr and Mrs Tom Kini. Berry Street, and brother of members of Gisborne's Kini Quartet, returned home for a short holiday this month after three years overseas as a member of the now internationally famous Maori High Quins. In less than five years, the show band has played in dozens of overseas countries, including Australia, England, Europe, and, more recently, the United States and Canada. When Thomas returns to America, he will be playing with the band for six weeks in New York, and will then go to South America and back to England. On his arrival at Darton Field, he was greeted by members of his family. Raymond James Watchman, son of Mr and Mrs Reg Watchman, formerly of Bulwer Road, has been contracted to sing in the New Zealand Opera Company's forthcoming productions of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" and "11 Trovatore". This will be his second season with the Company, having appeared as soloist in "La Boheme" and "The Magic Flute" last year. Mr Watchman took his first vocal lessons in Gisborne, and appeared in the Gisborne Operatic Society's 1959 production of "Oklahoma". He intends pursuing his career as an opera singer overseas in the future.
