Cricket Presentations

Auckland's John Sparling, who in recent years has toured South Africa and England as a member of New Zealand cricket teams, presented the Poverty Bay Cricket Association's trophies at its annual prize-giving ceremony, held at Lows Tearooms last month.

Prior to the presentations, Sparling spoke to the cricketers on his overseas experiences.

Recipients of trophies who were absent at the function were: Pat Naden, Boone Cup for fastest 50 runs, and Doug Gordon, Wilkie Cup for most improved player.

Sparling (right) presents John Guy, as captain of H.S.O.B. , with the Barry Cup for the winners of the 2nd Grade competition. Guy and Sparling were fellow team-mates on the South African tour.

P.B. and Northern Districts representative Kevin Kennedy received the Stewart Cup for the best all-rounder, and the Rothman's Trophy for the most outstanding player under 23 years.

The Chrisp Cup for the best bowling average was won by Rohan Barbour.
