Prior to sitting their annual driving tests, Gisborne's over-70-year-old drivers were given a brush-up on their road code at a meeting in the Old Folks Hall conducted by Traffic Officer L. N. Hutchison, Mr Hutchison is pictured speaking to the drivers following the screening of a series of coloured slides.

A total of 20 young men from the Gisborne-Wairoa district were enlisted in the 10th National Service Training Unit intake, currently in progress at Walouru. Five of the draftees are pictured leaving the Gisborne railway station, from left: Barry Broughton, Jim Holden, Pai Waikare, Rex Williamson, and Maurice Jones.
