The Last Pipe

Canterbury Pipelines Ltd, who have handled more than 16OO concrete sewer pipes during their 18 months' stay in Gisborne in connection with the City Council's submarine outfall pipeline and city interceptor mains, placed their last pipe into position last month.

The last pipe connected the end of the outfall line at Stanley Road Beach with the main land network, and was the fulfilment of the company's contract with the Council, other than testing and tidying up the ends of the multi-thousand-pound project.

The final pipe is guided down into position to bridge the gap between the outfall line and land main.

Project manager, Mr J. Pheloung, sits triumphantly astride the pipeline as he supervises the positioning of the remaining pipe.

The remaining section was bridged by a steel sleeve, covered with concrete.
