At the Horse of the Year Show, held recently in Hastings, Gisborne riders acquitted themselves well. Miss Ann Sherriff, on Forever, won the Lightweight Hunter class, and was runner-up in the Supreme Champion Hunter. Miss Valerie Bartram, on her C Grade horse Shade (pictured), became the second rider from the district to win the Lady Rider of the Year award after she defeated considerably more experienced riders in two gruelling rounds.
