Children's Cycling Test

Staff and parents of the Te Hapara School, in conjunction with the Transport Department, recently conducted a comprehensive cycling test for 59 pupils of the school.

A route through the city and suburbs of about three miles was covered by 23 checkpoints, where the children were marked on road behaviour and knowledge.

Prior to the riding test, the entrants' cycles were thoroughly examined, and had to be in perfect condition before being allowed to take part.

The first to be held in Gisborne the test was designed to bring the children's cycles up to a high standard of road worthiness, and to give the Transport Department officers positive faults to instruct on when visiting the school.

Results of the test were: 1st, Janeve Fraser; 2nd, Lesley Richards; 3rd, Kay Edwards.
