Whale Bones Dredged From Harbour

During the first few weeks of operation in Gisborne, the Westminster Dredging Company's bucket dredge Foremost prince has unearthed all manner of objects from the depths of the outer harbour basin. Working along the site of a former groyne, the dredge has raised untold numbers of wooden piles, rocks, and concrete blocks.

Recently she brought to the surface a different type of object, a large vertabrae section and a rib bone of a whale. The bones were in good condition after their long period on the sea bed, and are pictured above, being displayed by Mr W. G. Denham, a Harbour Board store-keeper.
