H.B. Provincial Shooting Champs

Thirty-five gun club members from as far as Whangarei in the north, and Blenheim in the south, travelled to Gisborne earlier this month to take part in the annual Hawkes Bay provincial shooting championships, held in good conditions at the Gisborne Gun Club's grounds at the Willows.

Two of the three titles went to Hastings shooters, with the remaining one, the single rise championship, being won by Gisborne's Rod McGregor.

The shoot-off for the major open event, the single rise handicap, was won by 18-year-old Gisborne gunman, Russell Cooper, when his experienced opponent, Roy Cavanagh, of Wellington missed his 99th bird.
